Among our guests will be two incredible talents who are also two of our favorite people, Josh Solomon and Erika Brett from The Empty Pockets.
Also joining us will be Jim Engel, noted cartoonist, illustrator, & designer, who is also the children’s television curator at Chicago’s Museum of Broadcast Communications.
And, the man who has been called “Chicago’s Picture Poet,” our friend, Barry Butler, the internationally published landscape and cityscape photographer, stops by. We can’t wait to see how that conversation “develops” (Sorry, couldn’t resist!).

Yes, it’s “the third of June, another sleepy, dusty Delta day” and, since it’s a Friday and the weekend, we just might find a little time to play.
We’ll hop across the big pond for a report on Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee from “Chicago’s Royal Watcher” and multiple Emmy Award winner, Fred Weintraub.
June 1st marked the start of hurricane season and, since the predictions are for an above normal year, we’ll get an idea of what to expect as we check in with a man we frequently turn to while we’re at our Florida vacation home, Ross Whitley, Chief Meteorologist for WMBB in Panama City FL.
Among our other guests on this side of the water will be Ron Romero, Founder & & Chairman of the Board of the “Illinois Rock & Roll Museum on Route 66”. We’ll get the details of their 2nd Annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Sunday, June 5th, 2022 at the Rialto Square Theatre in downtown Joliet.
Also joining us will be one of this year’s Hall of Fame inductees, who happens to be a dear friend, the man behind The Ides Of March and many other incredible musical adventures, the multi-talented, Grammy winning, Jim Peterik.
Consumer Guide Automotive‘s Publisher, Tom Appel, will recap some of the best new vehicles he sampled at the, just concluded, Midwest Automotive Media Association’s spring rally.

Because Steve’s Autoimmune Hepatitis has, unfortunately, gone from being in remission to having returned, we’re currently limiting the time we spend in and around crowds or anything resembling a large group of people. So, for a while (hopefully a SHORT while) we’re putting off any public appearances until the hepatologist gives his OK. The good news is that weekly blood work tests are showing improvement and we’re in regular contact with the doctor. We may still pop into your radio speaker now and then, but as for public appearances — not right now but, hopefully, sooner rather than later. Thanks for understanding.

Well, this year will really be an historic event. Since the WGN studios are moving to a new location, this will be the last time Steve & Johnnie’s “Cheap Date Life After Dark New Year’s Eve Extravaganza” will welcome in a new year broadcasting from the Showcase studio location!!
Among our guests for this special New Year’s show will be one of the featured artists on the PBS Soundstage Special “Cornerstones Of Rock,” the man who sang lead on many of The New Colony Six’s hit records, Ronnie Rice. And, since we had so many requests after their last appearance with us, joining us again this year will be Josh Solomon and Erika Brett from The Empty Pockets. Also, following her New Year’s Eve “Rock The 80’s” show at Harrah’s, Joliet, the incredible, Lisa McClowry will join us along with her guitarist/co-composer, Lavant (Van) Coppock. And, making a return appearance is Mentalist, Sidney Friedman, who will have some predictions for the new year.

10 PM – 2 AM — It’s the return of Steve & Johnnie’s “Cheap Date Life After Dark New Year’s Eve Extravaganza” on WGN Radio!! This year marks the the 21st anniversary of the first time we rang in the New Year on the air with you from the Showcase Studio!! We’ll have live, in studio, performances from several guests, including the man who sang lead on many of The New Colony Six’s hit records, Ronnie Rice, as well as Josh Solomon and Erika Brett from The Empty Pockets, and a return visit from Magoo, and the “Waitress With The Blues,” Jamie Holesha, who will be joined by Giles Corey. Watch this space for updates on more guests, hourly countdown locations and as much fun as we can fit in.

1 PM — We’ll spend a little of our Christmas Eve with you as we break out the nog, settle into Bill Leff & Wendy Snyder‘s comfy chairs on WGN Radio and do our best to track Santa and some other special guests right up to 4 PM when WGN’s Christmas programming begins.

9 AM — We last saw Lou Manfredini at the 2015 WGN Radio Walk of Fame Induction Ceremony, so we’re looking forward to having some quality time with “Mr. Fix It” and maybe trading him a copy of “A Little More Les” for a tip or two about that basement recording studio remodeling project we’re working on.

9 AM — Is Steve really going to grab his guitar and join The Ides Of March on the WGN-TV Morning News when they play their new Christmas song, “Rock N Roll For Christmas?” Well …. YES! So, don’t say you haven’t been warned. And, don’t be surprised if a cute blonde groupie shows up, too.

8 PM — We’ll be introducing legendary guitar master Tommy Emmanuel at the Park West for his special Classics & Christmas Tour show. Joining Tommy on the Christmas portion of the show are Pat Bergeson, John Knowles CGP, and Annie Sellick.
Tommy is featured in “A Little More Les” and, yes, copies of “A Little More Les” will be available at the show.

11 PM — Dane Neal is nice enough to let us hang out with him as he fills in for Patti Vasquez on WGN radio. We’re bringing along one of the world’s greatest guitarists, Tommy Emmanuel, and a few of his friends who will be part of Tommy’s Friday night show at the Park West, so don’t be surprised if some serious pickin’ breaks out.

5 AM — Once again we’ll fill in for Steve Cochran on WGN Radio. On this Black Friday, since Cochran will obviously be out elbowing his way through the crowds in his annual rush to finish up his Christmas shopping early, we’ll get to kick off the holiday season with you and a few more special guests. 5 AM — We’re back in Chicago to fill in for Steve Cochran on WGN Radio. On this Thanksgiving day, since Cochran will obviously be hard at work at home slaving over all of his traditional secret recipes, we’ll get to spend some time with you sharing some of Johnnie’s recipes and a special guest or two.
